5 Things a Chiropractor Would NEVER Do

There’s a new trend going around where professionals share the top five things they would never do based on what they know in their field. So, here’s my take—five things a chiropractor would never do.

Whether you’re curious about spinal health or just want to avoid habits that might be hurting your body, keep reading. These might surprise you!

1. I Would Never Force My Neck to Pop

Sure, we’ve all heard a little “click” or “crack” when turning our heads. That’s generally fine—your joints are just releasing gas. But forcing your neck to crack or pop is a different story.

Why? Because it can create instability in your spine, leading to injuries, misalignments, or long-term issues. Your neck is home to sensitive structures that need to be handled with care. When it comes to spinal health, more force does not mean more benefit.

2. I Would Never Get a Ring Dinger or Wire Strap Adjustment

You may have seen the viral “Ring Dinger” or wire strap techniques online. They look dramatic—and they are. These adjustments involve yanking the head using significant force, with the idea of achieving a full-body release.

As a chiropractor, let me say this clearly:
There are gentler and more specific ways to get great results. Using the head as a lever puts stress on sensitive joints and tissues. I personally would never choose that method for myself—or my patients.

3. I Would Never Rely on Over-the-Counter Pain Meds

Painkillers like Tylenol or ibuprofen can be helpful in the short term. But when you’re taking them daily to get through the day, it’s a red flag.

Fun fact: Tylenol was once a prescription medication—it’s strong stuff. Chronic use of pain meds can lead to liver damage, gastrointestinal issues, and worse. More importantly, pain is your body’s way of signaling a deeper issue. Don’t cover it up—get evaluated and address the root cause.

4. I Would Never Sleep on My Stomach

This one might be hard to hear if you’re a stomach sleeper—but trust me, it matters.

Sleeping on your stomach forces your neck into a twisted position for hours at a time, which puts unnecessary pressure on your spinal cord and nervous system. Since your spine houses your lifeline—your spinal cord—this posture creates chronic stress and strain.

I always recommend sleeping on your back or side with the right pillow support. Your spine will thank you.

5. I Would Never Underestimate the Body’s Power to Heal

As a chiropractor, one of the most inspiring things I see is how intelligent the human body truly is.

Your body was designed to heal, adapt, and thrive when given the right environment. From cell regeneration to injury recovery, the body knows what to do—it just sometimes needs the right support. Never forget that your body is wildly capable.

Chiropractor Tips for Long-Term Health

Taking care of your spine is one of the most impactful ways you can invest in your overall health. Here are a few tips I share with my patients:

✅ Prioritize Posture

Good posture doesn’t just look better—it protects your nervous system, improves digestion, and reduces strain on muscles and joints.

✅ Sleep Smart

Use a supportive pillow and avoid stomach sleeping. Aim to keep your spine neutral while you rest.

✅ Move Your Body

Regular, gentle movement keeps joints healthy, supports circulation, and prevents stiffness. Walking, stretching, and light resistance training all help.

✅ Listen to Your Body

Pain, brain fog, fatigue, or recurring injuries are signs something’s off. Don’t ignore them—get evaluated.

✅ Seek an Upper Cervical Specialist

If you’ve been dealing with unresolved issues like migraines, vertigo, neck pain, or brain fog, it may be time to seek out a specialist in upper cervical chiropractic care.
Upper cervical chiropractors focus on the top two bones in the neck—a region that plays a huge role in nervous system function and whole-body balance. A gentle, precise correction in this area can lead to profound improvements throughout the body.
