Fibromyalgia Let’s Have a Conversation

Fibromyalgia: Let’s Have a Conversation & Research

Fibromyalgia is a condition that has sparked debate and conversation in the medical community and beyond. A recent post started a conversation between Dr. Bulow & another Tiktoker on the topic of fibromyalgia to educate the community.

Starting the conversation what we would NOT say to any person is that “Fibromyagia is fake”; as Dr. Bulow goes on to say in this video. And offer upper cervical as a possible way to help with fibromyalgia.

Then @Jamesfightingbro on Tiktok opened up the conversation, as an advocate of fibromyalgia, how can fibromyalgia be treated.

Which lead Dr. Bulow to agree that fibromyalgia can be frustrating, but people do not have to walk alone in this healing journey. Dr. B also acknowledged a research study done on upper cervical chiropractic helping alleviate fibromyalgia. (the study can be found below)

Understanding the Complexity

One of the primary reasons behind the skepticism surrounding fibromyalgia is its classification as a functional diagnosis. Unlike many other medical conditions that can be definitively diagnosed through laboratory tests or imaging, fibromyalgia lacks a specific diagnostic test. Instead, it often involves a process of exclusion, ruling out other possible causes of the symptoms.

Seeking Compassionate Solutions

Rather than dismissing fibromyalgia as non-existent, it’s essential to commit to open conversations and finding solutions. Many individuals diagnosed with fibromyalgia are desperately seeking relief from their symptoms and are in genuine need of support and understanding.

Here are 5 Symptoms that people may experience with fibromyalgia:

1. Chronic Widespread Pain: The hallmark symptom of fibromyalgia is chronic, widespread pain that affects multiple areas of the body. This pain is often described as dull, aching, or burning and can vary in intensity.

2. Fatigue: Individuals with fibromyalgia often experience persistent fatigue, even after getting adequate rest. This fatigue may interfere with daily activities and can be overwhelming

 3. Sleep Disturbances: Fibromyalgia is frequently associated with sleep disturbances, including difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or achieving restorative sleep. This can contribute to increased fatigue and worsened pain.

4. Cognitive Dysfunction (Fibro Fog): Many people with fibromyalgia experience cognitive difficulties often referred to as “fibro fog.” This can include problems with memory, concentration, and mental clarity, leading to difficulties with daily tasks and work

5. Tender Points: Tender points are specific areas of the body that are unusually sensitive to pressure. In fibromyalgia, these tender points are often found at specific locations, such as the back of the neck, shoulders, chest, lower back, hips, elbows, and knees. Pressing on these tender points can elicit pain and discomfort.

These symptoms can vary in severity from person to person and may fluctuate over time. It’s essential for individuals experiencing these symptoms to consult with a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and management.

Embracing Alternative Paths to Wellness

While fibromyalgia may present challenges, it’s not a life sentence devoid of hope. There are alternative paths to managing symptoms and improving quality of life. Instead of resigning oneself to a lifetime of masking symptoms, there are strategies for rebuilding vitality and reclaiming health.

Fibromyalgia is not “fake.” Doing so only serves to invalidate the experiences of those living with this condition. Instead, let’s understand, and a commitment to exploring effective solutions that address the complex needs of individuals with fibromyalgia. If you or someone you know is struggling with fibromyalgia, know that compassionate support and resources are available to help navigate this journey toward healing and wellness.
